Job Description:

OBJECTIVE

To ensure that property, plant and equipment that are vital assets of the company are maintained at the highest standards and to ensure uninterrupted long tern business continuity and long-term financial health.

KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing the engineering and garden teams and ensuring a highly effective and efficient working environment while ensuring the future development of team members.
  • Schedule and delegate work according to skills levels required for each job ensuring maximum usage of resources.
  • Preparation of the annual budget and managing the monthly departmental P & L and controlling expenses
  • Set procedures and control measures for effective management of property upkeep and preventive maintenance initiatives.
  • Ensure day to day essential maintenance items are stored and par levels are set and maintained. In conjunction with the Purchasing Department source and order parts, materials and equipment as required on a timely manner
  • Schedule, implement and monitor a regular, effective and cost-efficient preventative maintenance program covering all resort machinery, equipment, buildings and infrastructure - ensuring that all areas are regularly cleaned, serviced, and maintained. All such programs must be backed by monthly or weekly check lists and resorts.
  • Scheduling and delegation of work to maintenance staff ensuring that the maintenance program is strictly adhered to i.e., daily/weekly/monthly checks.
  • Respond to maintenance requests from all departments in a timely manner and ensure that work dockets and verbal requests for maintenance are actioned expeditiously ensuring minimal negative impact to the operation or guest experience.
  • Ensure that corrective action is taken immediately for all faulty machinery equipment in consultation with the General Manager or Executive Assistant Manager
  • Follow up on all equipment and machinery sent for repairs out of the island for servicing/repairs, ensuring that it is returned to the Hotel in a timely manner.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all scheduled and breakdown maintenance undertaken on key plant, machinery, building, vehicles and resort vessels.
  • Update, review and schedule works from the Monthly action lists and ensure that projects are scheduled and completed by required times.

  • Overseeing the safe storage and use of fuel flammable liquid material - ensuring staff are training to handle and deal with spillage, leakage and emergency procedures.
  • Responsible for r managing waste within the premises and ensuring they are processed and reused where necessary and dispose to waste dumping island when required and ensure proper record keeping of such activities.
  • Scheduling of quarterly pest control with designated external contractor, monthly, quarterly and yearly.
  • Ensure compliance with all requirements relating to the maintenance department including but not limited to safe working practices, environmental initiatives, flora and fauna control, chemical storage, Noise, Energy Management and storage, petrochemical handling, etc.
  • Reporting of all environmental and safety related incidents as required by company Policies and Procedures.
  • Collation monthly/ quarterly/ annual, reports analysis of statistical information relating to Maintenance operations and ensuring that all necessary reports are shared with General Manager and Executive Assistant Manager on a timely manner in keeping with deadlines
  • Adhere to all Resort procedures for security measures, Fire, Safety, professional conduct, company rules, Health and hygiene.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness and tidiness of the Maintenance workshop areas ensuring Workplace Health and Safety regulations are adhered to.

  • Assist in cyclone and flooding emergency procedures as required by management.
  • Responsible for recruitment and rostering of all Maintenance staff in line with Resort guidelines ensuring that they are fully inducted in all aspects of the department and that all team members have updated Job Descriptions on arrival.
  • Checking of maintenance team members work to ensure high standards are maintained and work completed within agreed time frames.
  • Provide ongoing staff training and communication to maintain morale within the department.
  • Provide basic orientation of resort facilities and procedures for external contractors with an emphasis on environmental and safety precautions.
  • Ensure Contractor Guidelines are issued and signed by all external contractors and that copies of relevant licenses and insurance certificates are obtained.
  • Provide training of all staff on all aspects of the departmental operating procedures.
  • Provide regular feedback to employees on performance and teamwork.
  • Conduct Performance Development Reviews on all staff as appropriate.
  • Provide counselling and discipline in line with group Policies & Procedures where necessary.
  • Effective management and supervision of staff and morale within the department.
  • Maintain excellent grooming and hygiene standards in relation to personal grooming and uniform presentation.
  • Comply with Resort Safety & Environment policies, initiatives and legislation.
  • Abide by the guidelines set out in the Employee Handbook
  • Carry out any other duties as directed by the General Manager and Executive Assistant Manager
